For the next six months the United Kingdom will be the EU president. Yesterday in Ha'Aretz I read an op-ed by the UK ambassador in Israel, in which he tells us about the relationship between the EU, Israel and the Palestinians. In my opinion the EU is able and should be allowed to play a central role in finding an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and in a post-conflict ( hey, one can always hope ) Middle East. The article contains nothing really new, but on the other hand, I don't think that any future agreement between Palestinians and Israelis will contain many surprises, because of the known invariables and the little space available for manoeuvring. With a resolute and balanced approach the EU can become the crucial outsider that can get things moving into the right direction here.
