And the winner is?
Before Israel pulled out of Gaza, the greenhouses that formed part of the settlements in the Gaza Strip were saved from being dismantled or destructed by their owners - who did not want to see the Palestinians ransacking them. The $14 million deal that saved the greenhouses was brokered by James Wolfensohn, and financed mostly by private donors and USAID. At least the evacuees got some money out of it: except for a few dozen armed militia members who were supposed to guard the greenhouses but instead decided to ransack them, few Palestinians will benefit from the fact that the greenhouses were left intact.
