The original ( French ) lyrics of the Internationale were written in 1870, the melody that we know ( the lyrics were originally sung with the melody of the Marseillaise ) was written 18 years later. I think it is a beautiful song ( within its context ). In my view the most interesting line, which could explain a lot about the behavior of some proletarians who reached positions of power, is "Nous ne sommes rien, soyons tout" ( We are nothing, let's be everything ). Happy Mayday!.Observations, articles, opinions etc. in Dutch and English. The author, Bert de Bruin (Yonathan Dror Bar-On), is a Dutch-Jewish historian, who has specialized in modern Jewish history and in the history of the Middle East, and who in 1995 emigrated from the Netherlands to Israel. He wrote one book (2008), and edited another (2011), both in Dutch. For feedback please post a comment, or send this blog's author an email: (hisdutchname)atyahoodotcom
