Yesterday I saw one of my heroes, the journalist Ehud Ya'ari, cry on television. He spoke at the funeral of Ze'ev Schiff (*), his colleague and one of the most respected experts on Israel's security. Even several Arab media paid respect to Schiff, his analyses - like Ya'ari's - are widely read throughout the Arab world. Schiff, who was born in France around the time that Hitler came to power in Germany, came to mandatory Palestine as a 2-year old with his family. He already was an icon 25 years ago when I, though already seriously interested in Israel, did not even imagine that one day I might come and live here. May his memory be a blessing. For a good, early, analysis by Ze'ev Schiff of the Iranian threat and of Israel's options to deal with that threat, click here.
