I was pleasantly surprised to read that MK Yisrael Hasson, former deputy chief of the Shabak, will leave Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beitenu and join Kadima. Mr Hasson is a highly talented man, one of the best and most industrious members of the 17th Knesset, who is a public servant with a lot of expertise in Arab affairs, not a typical politician, and who never belonged in an extreme rightwing party. The Likud's reaction ( 'He was always a leftist' ) made me laugh out loud. That party is doing everything possible to attract fanatical rightwing voters, and to scare away centrist Israelis. Kadima ( which I still do not consider to be a real party, even though I very much appreciate its chairwoman ) has been given a real asset, let's hope Mr Hasson will have the chance to perform as well in the next Knesset as he has been performing in the current one.
