Moustaki - Alberstein - Teharlev
This is one of the first songs in Hebrew that I heard after I came to Israel for the first time ( 1991 ). It is called At Heruti ( You are my freedom ), and sung by my favorite Israeli ( female ) singer, Chava Alberstein. Only now did I hear Georges Moustaki sing the same song on YouTube, it turns out that he wrote it ( its title is Ma liberte, My Freedom, here is Serge Reggiani's interpretation of the French original ), and that Chava Alberstein's beautiful version is based on a translation by one of Israel's foremost lyricists, Yoram Teharlev, who was born and grew up in kibbutz Yagur, a ten minutes' drive from my home.
