Just finished reading a book that On the Face's Lisa recommended when the two of us had breakfast in Tel Aviv a few months ago. Very much worth reading, although some chapters are superfluous, and an editor should have polished up quite a few sentences. Nick Cohen is pretty convincing. Not that I really had to be convinced. Cohen's thesis can be summarized in the words of Martin Amis, who is quoted in the book's postscript: "People of liberal sympathies, stupefied by relativism, have become the apologists for a credal wave that is racist, misogynist, homophobic, imperialist and genocidal." In other words, in most countries the so-called Left - both its extremists and its more moderate adherents - has by and large become the partner in crime of Islamists and their allies, who easily fall within the generally accepted definitions of extreme rightwingers.
