Zupfgeigenhansel singing Mordechai Gebirtig
Erich Schmeckenbecher and Thomas Friz, of Zupfgeigenhansel, singing Arbetlose Marsh ( March of the Unemployed ), written and composed by Mordechai Gebirtig, who was murdered in Cracow in June 1942. In 1979 Zupfgeigenhansel made one of the best Yiddish albums that I know, 'ch Hob Gehert Sogn - Jiddische Lieder. They also made several excellent German folk albums, two of which I listen to every now and then. I will post one of those songs later this month. If you want more information about music and the Holocaust, click here. Anshel Pfeffer wrote a good article about the current situation ( and role ) of Holocaust education and remembrance in Israel.
