Quod licet Iovi non licet bovi

Isn't it ironic that this latest attack against leftwing groups by Likudniks is being launched right after we have learnt (more) about the foreign donors of the person who heads both the Likud and the government? It becomes more and more difficult to sell Israel as a democracy. Of course, we are still the only country in the Middle East that comes close to the definition and characteristics of a democracy, but when you read things like this, this, and this, you should worry if you care about the democratic character of this state of ours. I know, the mere fact that journalists, bloggers and others can still write about these phenomena without having to fear for their physical safety shows that most basic freedoms are still protected and even cherished by some, and all is not lost yet, but democratic values have become increasingly threatened as a result of the polarization that has held Israel in its grip for the last decade or so.
