I apologize to all DBI-visitors who do not understand Dutch. With a job and a family (including our daughter's bat mitzvah last month, which was great fun but very time-consuming, believe me), I have very little spare time these days. In the last few months I have spent very little time following the news and writing postings and articles. One subject has taken up much of that time. The Dutch Party for the Animals (together with the rightwing, anti-Muslim, populist Party for Freedom) has initiated a law that would ban kosher and halal slaughter in the Netherlands. Although I am not religious, I very much oppose such a ban, mainly for historical reasons. Many of my recent postings, and articles that were published in two Dutch dailies yesterday, deal with those reasons and with other aspects of the subject. I even have contacted a list of parliamentarians of the Dutch Labor party, which for 24 years has been 'my' party. It is an issue that I feel very strongly about. As soon as I have time I will post a list of links to interesting articles that I have read in the last months, mostly dealing with all that is going on in and around Israel (which is a lot, and little of it very encouraging). Until then I ask for your patience and understanding.
