Zupfgeigenhansel: Buergerlied

On my way from and to work these days I listen to several CDs with German, Dutch, and Scottish & Irish music. Two of the CDs are by a German duo that was active in the 1970s and 1980s. This is one of the songs on those CDs. By the way, Zupfgeigenhansel made one of the best albums with Yiddish songs that I know, 'kh hob gehert sogn.

Worth reading

Although I have neither the time nor the patience to sit and write long or short postings for this blog these days, I read a lot and keep informed about what is going on here and elsewhere in the world. Carlo Strenger and Bradley Burston have caught my attention (and, while I read their articles, received several nods of assent) recently with some of their work. One of the very few weblogs that I visit on a regular basis (once a week or more) is that of Rob Fransman, where I found the beautiful picture (Amsterdam, Spiegelgracht) that you can see at the top of this posting.

Tom Janssen on Iran

Nuclear weapons? What nuclear weapons?

Found on Tom Janssen's website.

Inspiring Crises

The crises in (mainly Southern) Europe have provided Dutch cartoonist Tom Janssen with much inspiration in the last few weeks.

"Well..." - "The next plan...!"

Schuldencrisis = Debt crisis
Europees Noodfonds = European Emergency Fund

Europees Noodfonds = European Emergency Fund; Net op tijd = Just in time

Schulden = Debts; Luie Grieken = Lazy Greeks

Griekenland = Greece; Nog maar een aspirientje? = Shall we give him another aspirin?
