Enemies of the Republic (and of the Jews)

If it is true that the three children and the young rabbi - and father of two of the murdered boys - who died in Toulouse this morning were murdered with the same gun that killed three French soldiers earlier this month, this will probably prove two things, for the umpteenth time. First of all, whoever hates and murders Jews hardly ever targets Jews exclusively. This is true for terror and hate crimes all over the world. When we look more closely at the French context, we can see again that what/whoever threatens France's Jews often threatens the French Republic and what that Republic stands for. Therefore, it can be said that the interests of La République française and of the Jews who live in that country usually run parallel. This was true seventy and fifty years ago as it is true today.
