Plus ca change...

These days I am reading Thomas Friedman's Longitudes and Attitudes, a collection of columns and reflections written and published in the months before and after 9/11. Although of course I do not always agree with Mr. Friedman, I have been a fan of his work ever since I read From Beirut to Jerusalem, long before I even thought about visiting - let alone going to live in - Israel. This morning I read his column that was published on September 11, 2001 (!). Read it yourself, and see how much has changed in the last 13 years, but also how many similarities there are between now and then, especially when it comes to the lack of hope for real, positive change on any of the many sides of the conflict.
